What is HzE?
Childcare support (HzE) supports families in challenging situations exactly where it is needed: individual, respectful and at eye level.

Our program
The offers from familie gGmbH are aimed at families who – whether on their own initiative or on the recommendation of others – are seeking support in raising their children. Our goal is To strengthen parents in their roleto encourage them, Responsibility for their actions and to take responsibility for the behavior and needs of their children to better understand and respond to.
It is important to us to offer our HzE services not only to provide short-term relief, rather sustainable changes in everyday family life. We support parents in fulfilling their educational responsibilities to rediscover, to regain and to fill out consciously.
Why help with parenting in the family?
We have been firmly established in Kreuzberg/Neukölln for over 30 years and work closely with youth welfare offices, schools and family centers.
Our interdisciplinary team—from social workers and psychologists to specialists in systemic family therapy, Gestalt therapy, and art education—provides tailored, life-world-oriented support. Thanks to our diverse language and cultural expertise, we can easily reach all families and sustainably support their children's development.

Who can apply for HzE?
Legal guardians – usually parents, but also other legal guardians – can apply for childcare assistance if they are unable to ensure a child's upbringing that is in the child's best interests. Young adults are also eligible and can submit an application.
What requirements must be met?
- There must be a need for help: the parents can no longer ensure the upbringing in the best interests of the child.
- The help must be suitable and necessary to positively promote the development of the child or young person.
- The active cooperation of parents and the child/young person is important for the success of the measure.
How does the application process work?
- Applications must always be submitted via the local youth welfare office (in the district of residence).
- Parents, children and young people can contact the Youth Welfare Office directly.
- Each request is examined individually for its needs and a decision is made as to whether and which form of HzE will be approved.
Where can I find initial consultations?
- Usually at the youth welfare office itself or at recognized family counseling centers.
- The head of the Parenting Support Services (HzE) department of Familie gGmbH is available for any queries.
Which costs arise?
- Outpatient childcare services are free of charge in Berlin; the municipality covers the costs.
- In the case of day-care or inpatient treatment, parents may be required to contribute to the costs.
How long does the care last?
The duration of the care is typically 3–12 months. If further need arises, it can be extended in consultation with the Youth Welfare Office.
How is data protection regulated at HzE?
- Only necessary personal data is collected; it is stored securely and access-protected.
- Disclosure only with consent or if the child’s welfare is at risk.
- Parents have the right to inspect the documentation and can request deletion if necessary.
- During the assistance period, there is close cooperation with the youth welfare office; reports on the family's goals are prepared in compliance with data protection regulations.
In which districts does the familie gGmbH?
The familie gGmbH It primarily cooperates with families and youth welfare offices in the Kreuzberg and Neukölln North-West social area. Long-standing networks allow existing resources to be used optimally for the benefit of families.
What to do if you are dissatisfied with the service?
- First, speak to the relevant specialists.
