Creative self-discovery for children with stressful life experiences. Through art, they discover their own strengths and means of expression.

Not all children find the support they need for their personal and academic development in the traditional school routine. "Children's Art Journey" is a educational-artistic group offer for children in grades 1 to 3 with special needs. The goal is to strengthen the children holistically—in their social behavior, their self-image, and their participation in school—while also actively involving their parents in school activities.

The offer is made by familie gGmbH in close cooperation with the Jens Nydahl Elementary School carried out in Berlin.

Goals of the Children's Art Trip

The "Children's Art Journey" is more than a social group—it's a space for growth, experimentation, and understanding. The focus is on:

  • Strengthening social and personal skills
  • Promoting emotional expressiveness
  • Improving orientation and self-efficacy
  • Development of environmental knowledge and everyday skills
  • Activation and involvement of parents into the school life of their children

Methods and working methods

The multi-professional team works with a holistic and resource-oriented approach, in which creative methods play a central role. project-oriented work with artistic techniques children can explore themselves and their environment in a playful way.

The following are used, among others:

  • Elements of non-violent communication
  • Creative expressions (Painting, building, designing, theater)
  • Movement and nature projects
  • Community rituals and thematic group work

These diverse approaches enable children to discover their own strengths, develop new perspectives and experience themselves as part of a group.

Who is the Children’s Art Trip intended for?

The offer is aimed at:

  • Children of the 1st to 3th grade with special needs in their academic or personal development
  • children with Behavioral problems or developmental delays
  • Children who need support in social learning in everyday group life
  • Families who have a more intensive access to school and support for their children wünschen

The selection of children takes place in close coordination with the school, the teachers and the youth welfare office.

Parental work as a central building block

A particular focus is on the active involvement of parentsThey are encouraged and empowered to more responsibility in everyday school life to take responsibility for their children, to actively participate, and to help shape their development. Parent-teacher evenings, discussions, and joint activities promote exchange and strengthen the connection between home and school.

Impact and perspective

The “Children’s Art Journey” offers children a safe environment in which they can:

  • gain social security,
  • the express yourself creatively can,
  • Confidence in your own abilities develop,
  • and positive bonds with peers and adults.

At the same time, the program strengthens school integration and parental involvement – an important step towards greater equality of opportunity and participation.
